TASK#9
EXPLAIN WITH YOUR OWN WORDS WHAT A TASK-BASED LEARNING APPROACH IS.

The task based or experiential approach learning is an approach in which appropriate contexts are given for developing thinking and study skills as well as language and academic concepts for learners of different levels. The goal is to achieve learning by giving students real situation tasks in which they will have to learn by "doing" and not just reading about something (an issue). The language in classroom has to be meaningful in order to be memorable. The tasks given have the objective to make students use the language to achieve a specific goal. Activities like playing a game, solving a problem or exchanging information can be very important in the task based learning. It is based also on Krashen's theory when it says that the tasks will generate their own language and create an opportunity for language acquisition. If possible the focus should be taken away from form and emphasize the development of the ability to do things of everyday life in English.
An example of use of TBL in classroom is to organize the class in activities. In the first place should be the pre-task activity when students will discuss questions about the topic to be studied. Then comes a task cycle with stages. In stage 1 the students are given a task in which they have to plan the activity they will work on. In stage 2 the students will really "do" the task planned. Stage 3 is to complete the task. Arriving at stage 4 the students compare the results with their classmates and come to some conclusions. In stage 5 the feedback occurs. At this stage the teacher can make comments about the student's performance and make some corrections of errors that were made.
After reading about the task-based learning and the example I remember an activity that I gave my students once. It had a lot of the TBL thecnic. I organized the class in pairs and put a text written on the blackboard. One person had to read and dictate to the other. After that I gave them time to check out mistakes. Then each group selected 5 words of vocabulary and we put those words on the blackboard. We organized groups of words mixing the words given by different groups. In the following step the groups had to create a new text with the new group of words. I remember the students liked it very much and at the end they told me they felt they learned a lot with this activity.
