Subject: Task 9

Explain what a task-based approach is. Describe its main characteristics

This is an approach that sets task for the students to develop their abilities. The tasks proposed are leveled according with to skill level of the students and the difficult are raised as the students improve their skills. Passing this obstacle the students will be more motivated as they will be involved in construction of knowledge. “The instruction should be case-based and emphasize knowledge construction, not transmission of information”.

Another characteristic of the Task-Based Approach is the use of tasks that bring the students close to the real life, as this approach induces the use of authentic material.

This required capacity of the student to overcome tasks with growing difficult will motivate him to develop his communicative competence. So there is a close relationship between the Communicative Approach and the Task-Based Approach.
