TASK 9

Explain what a task-based approach is. Describe its main characteristics.

The authors have different views. I consider all interesting, but I’ll take one I consider more appropriated.
A task-based approach is an approach that is based on goal-oriented activities in which learners use language to achieve a real outcome. Learners use whatever target language resources they have to: solve a problem, do a puzzle, play a game, or share and compare experiences.

Its main characteristics are three: the task-based activities have a goal or purpose that requires the use of the target language, but it is not itself centered on that language, the second involves making use of the unique features of a language lab to create a learning environment that cannot be recreated in the regular classroom and the third is that it involves the student in a way that intrinsically motivates (to want something is to be motivated and motivation initiates and sustains involvement in learning), lowers the affective filter, and creates a desire to excel.
