Analyze the "Buy a car" - Karlys Wells lesson plan having Ryan's text as reference.

In Ryan´s text there are some issues concerning to "potential pitfalls" that could happen in every teacher class. He calls our attention to always provide adequate feedback because it could result in lost of motivation of our students. According to him learners need a constant feedback of the work their are developing in order to keep going with interest. Another point is to clarify the goals the teacher is searching. Those goals can be small achievable based on a daily work. The teaching style has to have consistency because in a communicative class where sometimes the teacher needs to be strict about some matters but on the other hand has to play the role of a "friend-coach" the teacher must be self-aware of the cultural environmental of the class as well as of his real role and has to clearly express his personal philosophy to assessing learners.
Annalizing Wells lesson.
The communicative approach advocates making students speak as much as possible but learners should have a routine of work to feel comfortable in speaking out. This framework in Wells lesson is:
Warm-up : ( the subject of the class is put on the blackboard )- Consumer Education / Family and consumer Science. After that the teacher proposes a brainstorm with all the factors to consider when buying a car like : body styles, safety rating, fuel efficiency, etc.
Presentation: In a following step he assign to students or teams a research about this in internet and suggest some sites.
Controlled practice : at this time the students create a decision grid on a spreadsheet listing possible vehicle choices. They also search newspaper ads for new or used cars that might meet the criteria, and compared them to he ones selected of the grid. Finally they consult with each other in the area of their expertise.
Free practice : at this phase each student writes a summary processing his/her research findings and how they were used in the comparison of actual cars.
Feedback : now the students will justify their choice of vehicle to their classmates and explain how they used the knowledge gained from the consultation with a classmate "expert". After that they can create a collaborative list to share with each other in the class.
In conclusion we have to keep our attention in all these issues because while a communicative methodology is an excellent tool for increasing fluency, it could creates recurring problems that can compromise the success of the classes.
