Subject: Task 7

Analyze the following lesson plan having Ryan’s text as reference.

The lesson plan created by Karlys Wells is not totally in accordance to the communicative approach. Analyzing and comparing the six areas cited by Stephen B. Ryan with this lesson plan we can find some problems, beginning by the goal.
The title of the project is “Buy a car”, but the subjects that would be developed “consumer education/family and consumer science” could be explained better. For example: what kind of subject the author wants to work: grammar or vocabulary? If grammar, which structure? If vocabulary, which level or which “family word” would be presented? It’s also necessary context and not only show what the teacher intends to do during the classes.
Still in accordance with Ryan’s text, lesson plans need a routine that allows the development of the student’s confidence, stimulate their participation and also has time enough to the teacher’s feedback. It is not very clear if the lesson plan “Buy a car” will give these opportunities to the students, because Karlys is asking a research about the main characteristics of cars, how these characteristics can influence a car’s choice and the publication of the research results. The time for student’s expressions seems to be not enough. I know that this is a project to be developed in four classes, but the students have a research that gives more advantage to writing and reading. Listening and speaking are in the second plan. Another point to be presented: the teacher’s feedback has to be giving before the final results of the research and I didn’t perceive time for this activity in the Karlys’ lesson plan.
Summarizing, this lesson plan has a good idea, but if we follow the suggestions of Ryan it can be worked in a better way, mainly if the four skills of learning (reading, writing, listening and speaking) and teacher’s feedback have more attention.
