Lesson plan analysis


The lesson plan we are supposed to analyze has some good and bad points, specially if we consider Ryan's text Overcoming Common Problems Related to the Communicative Methodology
Firts of all, the idea of a project is very interesting, because the students can feel more motivated to do their tasks, this is something that really works for students (speaking as an student!). As a warm up activity the teacher suggests a brainstorm activity which is very good so the students can predict what is coming. The research phase is also very good, however I think the teacher should have provided some more "background" to his students, maybe he should have talked a little bit more about cars, showed some pictures, brought some material found on the Internet about the subject, or told the students his own experience about it, to start a discussion with the students. This would let them more confident and more interested on the subject. Another good idea was the group work because the students can interact with each other. The Decision making phasealso has good points, and because of all the researche that is required for that part the teacher should not allow students to work alone, because this phase demands a lot of activities to be done. So I guess the teacher could change it to only team or pair work instead of let them work by themselves.
The idea of publishing the process is, in my opinion also very good, specially if the summaries could be seen not only by the teacher, but by other people, because I think the students would feel more stimulated to write their summaries. Besides this sharing phase allows the interaction with the whole classroom, and not only with a restrict group.
