Subject: Task 7

First note that I will make is that Ryan wrote his text based in his Japanese audience, and as he states, the cultural awareness is very important. Although his observations are very clear he may somehow be influenced by the environment where he is inserted.

In the lesson to be analyzed, the students will have a lot of independent work, doing themselves the research and consulting another students when in doubt. The teacher will have little role is this practice, just guiding the students in the first steps. Then they will start to walk by themselves. This seems to be excellent to develop the learners’ autonomy, however, the feedback to the students will be very little, and as Ryan states this could be a drawback in the learning process.

A positive point is that this lesson defines a clear objective to the students. They know, since the beginning that they will be researching a car, and with this in mind they can work in a more efficient way.

The lesson also brings to the learners a well-defined framework. The students are guided through steps within limits until they reach a stipulated objective. In this way they are less found to be lost in the lesson. It is as if they have a map to follow and a number of tasks to do. And the teacher is there to guide them.
