The portfolios are one of the alternative ways of judge students’ development in all the areas of knowledge. It became very important when teachers started to realize that the traditional tests most of the time were not able to measure what the students really acquired from the classes.
The portfolios are considered a good manner of assessment because not only the teacher evaluates the student but also the student (by seen how he changed along the course) can evaluate itself.
In this case not only the teacher is seen as the responsible for the learning process, the student tends to observe how s/he developed and that most part of this development happened because of his/her work.
An important thing to be kept in mind is that the student and teacher can not only see the portfolio as a folder where the students keep their material but they have to use it as a continual form of evaluation (for teachers) and self-evaluation(for learners).
