Vera e colegas,

Nas páginas 120 a 128, Lakoff e Turner falam dos efeitos da teoria do sentido literal e as diversas posições sobre a metáfora. Apesar da forma compacta, como disse Maria Célia no início do fórum, é possível termos uma visão esclarecedora dessas posições. Gostaria de traçar um pequeno comentário sobre a posição que se refere à razão e imaginação. Segundo a teoria do sentido literal a razão e a imaginação são mutuamente exclusivas. O domínio da razão está ligado a conceitos não metafóricos, enquanto que o domínio da imaginação está ligado a irracionalidade e a fantasia. A seguir os autores comentam que "we often reason metaphorically. (...) Our reasoning that time changes things is metaphoric and deeply indispensable to how we think about events in this physical, social and biological worlds. Indeed, so much of our reason is metaphoric that if we view metaphor as part of the faculty of the imagination, then reason is mostly if not entirely imaginative in character" (p. 124). A princípio achei muito exagerado essa visão de que a razão é quase que totalmente imaginativa e confesso que ainda estou buscando perceber a dimensão desse comentário. O que vocês acham?
