Para ilustrar “Making a mistake is falling over” aqui vão alguns exemplos.

1. “I think I tripped up on the first question”.
2. Comentário de alunos sobre uma prova.

3. “The actor stumbled over his lines! I think he was drunk.”

5. “But you didn’t take a single wrong step!”

7. “You could fall flat on your face!”

9. “When I asked her, she fumbled for what to say!”

11. “Is this a clumsy attempt at saying sorry?”

13. “It was slip of the tongue. I’m sorry!”

Outro exemplo: “Money is liquid”.

1. “Do you mind? I only have Euros, my dollars are all dried up.”
2. “I wouldn’t if I were you. Investing in their stock at this moment is like
3. pouring your money down the drain.”
4. “Terrible really. They have only just started liquidating assets. I wonder
5. how long they can stay afloat…”
6. “Obviously, in a situation like that, anybody would find it difficult to keep
7. their head above water, financially I mean…”
8. “…can’t believe that NICTEL went under!” “Yup, sank like a rock after the
9. Argentine crisis.”
10. “…getting restless. You know, this wage freeze hasn’t been very
11. popular.”
12. “…until my paycheque arrives before I’m solvent again.”

“Treating illnesses is a war”

1. “It is possible to win the war against the HIV epidemic;”
2. “There is no magic bullet that can cure cancer;”
3. “HIV batters the body’s defenses;”
4. “You’ll win the battle against this terrible disease.”

“To put someone trough the mill” é causar dor em alguém, ou dificuldades para alguém;
Sandra Becker
