The argument between you and "Not a Jimmy Fan" may be around different definitions of the term "§Ûŧ".

If §Ûŧ means plagerism. It is a serious allegation.

However, if we use §Ûŧ as copy or be inspired by an idea from someone else in one's writing, it is common and we all did that one way or another.

I guess Patsy is using §Ûŧ as the latter, not the former definition that contains an intention of stealing others' academic achievement as his/her own and try to mislead the other to believe it is his/her invention.

It seems to me that she did not deny Jimmy did have his own creation but she stressed that Jimmy is not the first person to write that sort of characters and plots.
I think she was not saying Jimmy is not good. She just tried to say the original creator of that idea is terrific.

§Ûŧ may be plagerism and may be "inpired by" in English. The Chinese term §Ûŧ may not always be equivalent to serious allegation like Plagerism . It depends on context.

It is not an insult to me if you say I §Ûŧ idea or plot from Shakespear if my result writing is touching. However, it is even more admirable if that same touching feeling is created by an original character or plot, given all other aspects equal.

I can understand "Not a Jimmy Fan"'s concern of safeguarding Jimmy's reputation. He wrote his opinion out of honourable intention.

However, I did not see that Patsy had any intention to discredit Jimmy. She just tried to make an honest comment on skills of literature writing so that people can consider that.

Both are just using the same term §Ûŧ for different meaning. Both are having good intention. Hope that there will be no misunderstanding or hurt of feelings.

I am nosy again.

I did my best to paste "§Ûŧ". I prefer using Chinese but I cannot type them at reasonable speed. It takes ages.

Have fun.
