Since there is a presumption that coffee is normally served hot, the word "hot" can be omitted when ordering coffee. I agree
that it is grammatically redundant to add the word "hot" before coffee.

However, I think waiters are not wrong to ask whether a client needs hot or iced coffee. It is because if a client omits by
mistake the word "iced" when ordering, waiters and bartenders may need to do a lot of extra work later. It is safer to confirm
about that if a waiter is not sure he heard the order correctly . Also, it gives that client one more chance to think about what he
really wants so that he will be less likely to change his mind later. A lot of people change their mind after ordering drinks and it
is a headache to waiters.

In order to help waiters get it 200% correct, I usually add the word "hot" when ordering coffee. Life is tough for everyone.

I wonder what will happen if I say to a waiter "Hot strawberry ice cream, please." I don't have that experience. If anyone tried
that before, please tell me how it tasted like.
