Sorry that I cannot type Chinese.

I agree with you. I have no friend or relative killed in 911 or Iraqi war. Therefore, I did not feel sadder for the 3000 innocent people killed in 911 than for the 3000 innocent people killed in Iraqi war. The loss of one friend or relative may make me sadder than both events. I must be frank. So in terms of feelings and concerns: one person (I know) > 3000 people (I don't know).

Some people get killed by traffic accident may be a good father or good son that deserve the same respect as that of the anti-SARS heroes. The difference is the media said nothing about them. To me, a good parent, a good son or daughter, are as respectable as a great political leader, scholar or humanity heroes. A housewife may be able to make only one or two people feel blissful in her whole life, say her husband and/or her son. She may not help or save thousands of people. However, to her husband or son, she is not replaceable even by the greatest politician and her contribution is unique. Making one person feel blissful is already a great contribution.

You and I are unique and so is everyone else in the world. We are not numbers. We all have people with special importance to us. We have special roles to play in their lifes and vice versa. These roles generate a lot of deep feelings.

Life is a bunch of feelings. Not all feelings are bad. Some feelings are good and deep but we tend to forget them when we are in bad mood.
