My early memories are more of wet, Wednesdays rather than sunny afternoons though I enjoyed both.Big, old Arthur Crozier sounding out over the tannoy[if I remember correctly!!!], old Cyril Lewis from Carlisle Street shuffle up and taking his seat with the odd "C`mon `tillery" shout, if only to keep so I used to buy an Oxo or a Bovril with a bog o` crisps.I remember trecking up from the bottom of Old Blaina Road where I used to live, prior to that I`d urge the paper boy to be punctual with the Argus to read Carl Diffords` report so I could see what team had been picked or who we had on permit.A.N.Other was a frequent name, funny how he got to play in SO many positions!!!!! I`d meet me mate on the way up and we`d take our seat in the old stand amongst the wooden seating. Then we`d sit `n` wait until we heard the clank-clank of the studs on the metal bridge as the players came over it and make their way to the pitch.
I think the most stark memory of an individual performance on The Park was when Aber played Pontypool on a Wednesday night and Dai Bishop absolutely took us apart single handed, an immense player and an immense performence.I think he may well have scored all or most of the points that night.I remember my idol Nigel Paul having a fantastic game that night as well.
Good memories that`ll stay for a long time...........
[Thanks for stirring em Ging`!!!!]
