Subject: There was another referee available at the ground. He however is an Abertillery supporter who had come to see the game as such with no kit. As I understand it, he felt that with such a "big" game as it were that he would be in an invidious position if he were to officiate and so did not wish to do so. Imagine the furore there might have been say had Machen lost to a last minute penalty for example? It was not fair on him in the circumstances. With that in mind we backed his decision and no other referee was available, hence the game was postponed - the right decision in the circumstances. We did not refuse to play.
