As Hilary so eloquently pointed out in her Convention speecch last night, no one who voted for her for the right reasons - which is to say, because of her world-view, her policies and her platform - could possibly vote for McCain.

That "disaffected Hilary swing-voters" myth is one being promulgated by the McCain campaign in a desperate attempt to make it true by wishing, and by the media in a desperate attempt to sell more newspapers and TVNews face-time by making a walk-off homer look like a close play at the plate.

Of course there are a half dozen or so of those people, who failed to see during the campaign that Hilary and Barack were so close on most positions that she had to invent issues (The telephone at 3AM) to try to differentiate herself from him. They're the "Cult of Personality" voters whose decision is based entirely on inflated emotional identification with the candidate of their choice.

As Hilary quite clearly pointed out, there is no rational, logical rationale under which anyone who actually supported Hilary's goals and plans could vote for McCain. This is just another red herring meant to distract voters from paying attention to the real issues and inject "drama" into the race.

McCain is a difficult guy, with a very checkered history. He has a reputation as vengeful, obsessive and explosive. But I agree with Tino that "anger" at him is misplaced. In my opinion, it only fans the flames of the illusion that he's a contender.

It seems impossible - except in Bizzaro World - that someone as pedestrian, difficult and compromised (there's his record with the Keating Five, among other difficulties) as McCain - shadowed by the eight year record of the Bush Administration, with which he voted more than 90% of the time in the last four years - could stand a chance against Obama and a revitalized Democratic Party. But of course, we all remember Florida in 2000, and we can all see who is sitting on the Supreme Court bench...

So-called "campaign coverage" has become a big "info-tainment" (or some would say, dis-info-tainment) spectacle for the networks. It costs them nothing to secure the rights and if they add the right music, editing and "commentary" they can make it almost as exciting and heart-string-tugging as "America's Got Talent." For the TV talking heads and the corporations that run them, it's just another "reality show."
