Hi Craig,
Thanks for your note. I went to Franconia from St.Louis. There were more people in the mega apartment buidings on my street there than in all of the northern part of NH. Quite the contrast. Franconia cured me of city living.
I lived in a very remote part of New Mexico for several years recently. Where I stayed last was one of the oldest and largest cattle ranches in the state. Fifty miles from the nearest city, with a five mile dirt road, 2 creeks, no bridges, to get to the ranch. I think it gave rise to the expression, "I'll be there if the Lord's willin' and the creeks don't rise." When the creeks rose, we were pretty much stranded out there. Lots of peaceful solitude.
At six thousand feet, it was beyond words to see the peaks of the surrounding mountains at eight to ten thousand feet, the immense clouds and sunsets which made the sky seem ablaze. New Mexico is a "land of enchantment."
Same can be said of the North Country too. With the invigorating air, the vibrancy of the people, it seems only natural the area produced (produces) so many gifted writers, poets, and artists.
What was your focus at Franconia? Do you go up during autumn? What are you doing now?
