I'm the Laura W. Langley above. Zoe was my nickname since the 60s so had it legally changed to Zoe in 1995, including my middle name.
The W was for Wally. When my grandmother immigrated here, she had umpteen middle names (so none of the relatives were insulted by her not being named after them). She didn't have room for all of them so kept the name of her favorite uncle. Every year in high school I found myself enrolled in a boys' gym class.
