Well I was never a real Joe Pa fan since whenever Penn state played Rutgers ( not in conference ) they usually won and my family has a long connection with Rutgers U which began before they were out of the Ivy League schools.

Joe was very active in a lot of community stuff and gave lots of donations to charities and youth programs. he was a true inspiration to the students as well as the college and the state and a lot of other very good things.
Back when the incident took place for the first time ( apperently Sandusky kept it up over a long time frame and got away with it ) the drill was that the information Joe was told was given to the college admiistrations and it was their responsabillity to do what should have been done.
They did not and they were still around when the story broke when one of the victims broke silence which they obviously should not have been.

The assistant coach who saw the first incident and stopped it apparently ( or so he says ) reported it to Joe who reported it to the administration and board and that seems to be as far as it went.
I would suppose that without a corroborating witness they ( admin ) decided not to act and then did the coverup which went on till well after Sandusky was no longer with the college but still had privledges there which he also should not have had.

There is a special place in HELL for guys like him but he should have been taken out back in the beginning.
I would guess that the college authorities decided on the coverup to keep it from the patrons and sponsors which was often done whenever anything happened in big colleges back then.
S may have promised it would never happen again and they might have believed him. He might even have stopped for a while but this sort of crime is also an addiction so if he did stop he fell off the wagon.
Had he been suspended and sent to counciling maybe the balance of his victims would not have had to endure abuse and maybe he would have ben a reformed sex offender before it was decided to make such things public knowledge.
Had he been sent to jail he might even have been severely treated by inmates who , at that time , often saw child abusers as the lowest of the low and fair game for almost any kind of punishment.

JUst remember it was a different world back then and also remember that once something like this starts ( the coverup it usually goes on until someone blows the cover ( no pun intended ).
