Hi Ben Plus one more on the sentiments expressed , hope things are going well for you at present.

Do you remember what the shore was like before the andrea doria and the stockholm collided ?
I barely remember how clean the beaches were back then and how for decades the black goo from the bunker oil washing up on the shopres made the sand grey instead of the way it used to be , the tarry lumps stuck to things or just on their own that washed up on the beaches and what the shore communities did to minimize the problems that created.
I also remember when all sorts of stuff began washing up on shore from both the offshore dumping areas ( if the barges actually went out that far before spilling the garbage and trash they were carrying ) as well as jetsam from the ships coming into the NY harbor areas and some of the detritus that came off of the west degrading piers and washed out to sea then back to shore for quite some time before steps were taken to try and stop all of that.
Beginning back in the sixties there were a lot of people who got involved in trying to clean up the oceans and the rivers to stop a trend that came from not thinking about what we as a part of the ecosphere were doing to degrade and soil our own cage so to speak thanks to not thinking about the consequences of our actions.

It is unfortunate that not more was done that would prevent things that are not planned for from taking place and also that when there was forethoiught and planning that not enough has been done to continue to improve safeguards against things that can be planned for.
Very often the best laid plans turn out not to be the best way of handling problems that seem to crop up for things not put in the plans in the first place.
While we do learn from our mistakes maybe we should be ahed of the curve instead of trailing it. Even the steps taken to look ahead are often not far enough in that direction. So many things people plan for turn out not to be what actually happens to circumvent those plans.
