Like Win says for the discounts. the real advantages if there are any kick in once you are past the retirement age but from 50 ( I think ) when you can join till then you can get lots of discounts on stuff like glasses for example if you need them.

Joined way back but the glasses discount was the only thing I used and that was for someone else who really needed them at the time.

Happy New year and keep on grindin'

PS read a lot about US battle ship design and the changes in what meatal alloys used for armour from the late 1800s through to say about the thirties were amazing. For a while they were coming in so fast that they were always changed just too late to be used in the present design of warships for protection.
From iron and mild steel to nickle steel then harvey and Krupp and STS ( special treatment steel ) and all at the same time as both powder and ordinance advancements were being made and the change from coal burning to oil then oil fired steam turbine and eventually turbine electric propulsion.
The interrelated aspects are fascinating most of this driven by torpedo design and advancement that was only countered by long distance gunnery.
Of course though battleships and heavy armored cruisers etc were still a mainstay of naval forces worldwide , between the first and second world wars the aircraft carrier took over the mian naval power position.

ANy how the part I thought you would appreciate was the armor metal advancements that drove gunnery advancements which then required better armor etc.
And people think arms races are about new technology not advances in existing tech......
