We lost power on Thursday night. Lisa and I looked at each other with anticipation. We counted down from 30. The lights came back on! We finally put in a generator this fall, and this was its first real-world test - it passed! We had always kept warm with kerosene heaters (we're up to three of them), converted to a propane cook top about 10 years ago, and have myriad fluorescent lanterns around the house. Bathing in a bowl in the kitchen had gotten pretty old, though, as was the parfum du kerosene we ended up smelling like after a few days. Now that Lisa's retired, and not on the road several days a week, her asthma and the kero fumes were pretty incompatible!
