The natural reaction to any attempt to control at FC was usually rebellion.
By that I mean the attempt was predoomed to fail becuse there were always many who would object and fight against it even if they had no real axe to grind.

The political thing is just one aspect of the phenomenae that cuased people to leave the forum , the nastiness of some of the interactions was well beyond the pale and a lot of it was not over anything political though that area seems to have been one where passions rise to their highest level.
