Morgan - et al. -

I have to agree, I found the tone of Winston's post off-putting. Franconia was a wonderfully diverse mix of people, the majority of whom - when I was there - accepted each other with admirable tolerance and even often found the real value of others who were very unlike themselves.

That was part of the richness of experience for me - talking about economics with students who came from privileged backgrounds, as well as disadvantaged. It wasn't just "theory" - but the examination of real, lived experience (John Dewey) and the comparison of equally "true" but divergent points of view.

I enjoyed the last reunion - which I played a part in creating - mostly through the opportunity to see old friends, with some of whom I had lost direct touch. That's what I would look forward to in a future reunion.

If Win and his friends want to get together - in Franconia or anywhere else - I think that's fine. But if it is a Franconia Reunion that is being proposed, then it ought, it seems to me, to be for everyone - the "needy" as well as the "smug," "self-satisfied," and everyone else, no?

I'd enjoy meeting my old friends from FC once again, and some of those that I came to know through the last reunion process. But if it can't be done in a loving, inclusive, joyful spirit, I'm not sure I can see what the point would be?

Like Morgan, I hope that's what can happen. I'm afraid that the tone set by this post doesn't seem to be moving in that direction. I hope Win will understand why some folks might see it this way and find a way to act more in the spirit of "peace, love and understanding," that was funny and serious at FC.
