growing up in a middle class/working class area on long island in the 50's, it was full of people from Europe, Caribbean etc. i still know many of them. we all went to the UN on class trips. we all watched JFK get shot.most of them are very open minded and believe in civil rights.
after getting kicked out of high school there for standing up for equal rights, i went to school in NYC. a different type of people. all the same age group of UN, civil rights. we all watched MLK get shot. i went to franconia where many people for the first time in their lives got to know the upper classes and went back to middle class armerican feeling a need to kiss ass(maybe) not all but some i know.
i call that the Victorian house servant/slave complex. i would say franconia was the most complex of all. now i live with farmers.
people make their own class/caste system. they drift to who they know and who they feel safe with. online people are just beginning to notice how it works.
robert moses the douche bag racist ruined more neighborhoods by plowing highways through them and marking out on real estate maps what group lives where. it is harder to do that today but still possible.
or if i had millions of dollars i might live in a more upscale area or not. i don't know. since i don't dream or desire it i don't know.
social networks just show where people gravitate naturally.maybe we are getting a little more out of the cave.
