Today I had Thanksgiving with a large group of extended family sorts. The fare included a tofu turkey to accommodate a very earnest, strident vegetarian, college student niece. For some reason, I recounted the story of a Thanksgiving at Franconia which came back to me like it was this morning. It was what, 37 years ago? It was at Ash Hill Farm in Lisbon. The table was divided in half with vegetarians at one end savoring their lentil loaf and carnivores at the other with the more traditional turkey. Around the table were Bill and Nita Hall, Jan Resnick, Mike Tyburski, Plesah and Penney Wilson, Anne Wolff, Muff, Tim Leary, me and one or two others whose names and faces have faded. It’s a memory that always causes me to smile and for which I’m thankful to this day.
