"We won't get fooled again," finally came true . . at least for a day.

One of my best friends in high school was George Harris, an African-American. I remember a bunch of classmates organized a swim party at the local YMCA. I assumed and expected George would come, but his mother kept him home because she thought blacks would not be allowed or welcome at the YMCA. .

I remember when I drove an ice cream truck through rural parts of Maryland between Baltimore and Annapolis on the way to my route, seeing gas stations that had signs over their restrooms that said "white only" and "colored only" .. and this was the late sixties after the civil rights movement. .

This is a momentous day. Obama isn't the messiah. He will be another president with all the viscitudes that go with the office. But he couldn't have won the presidency without a lot of white people considering substance over color - and that is a nice change in the wind. .
