That -64 night I put the blankets over the curtain rods and down to the floor to keep the heat in the room in PAradise which was not the most efficiently insulated house even if they did rent it out to skiers in season ( well they're a bit crazy as a rule to start with ).
the blankets were better keeping the cold out and the heat in than piled on top of me in the bed. Might have been better with someone to share body heat with but that was a particularly bad year for male female ratios as you well know.
It was a different season while I was living in Bethlehem at JAcks little house that I froze the soles of my feet and had to defrost them slowly to avoiud frostbite damage.
The foot sole bit was a result of an all night poker game in the lounge then trying to start the VW which was not cooperating. the clod from the parking lot tarmac came up through the soles of the boots like a hot knofe through butter.
After that I went over to Stod Nickles and bought a pair of Fabiano Mountain Boots with the really thick soles for ice work and a set of wool insoles and really thick woolen socks with silk sock liners and never had a problem with my feet again. Can't be too careful about frostbite.
Eventually I got into Frostline kits and made all sorts of winter stuff like the 20 below coat, rain gear to keep it all dry, gaiters which I still have somewhere , down socks and mittens and all that Jazz.
Too bad Frostline went out of business they had really good products.

I used to fr3equent Jimmy's army Navy in Mo town and am still using a pair of wool knit gloves like were for lining leather gloves to this day. Even with a moth hole or two they can't be beat.
I may still have the winter battle dress trousers I bought in the Littleton outlet store packed away somewhere and might even be able to wear them yet. hard to beat them for winter warmth but the quilter winter underwear I had wore out long ago.
Anyone useing a balaklava ? you know the hat that folds down to make a full head covering except for the face or eyes and mouth...
Looking for a good set of gloves for the winter like the ones you used to be able to find everywhere but cannot anymore since everyone is buying those cheap skiglove knockoffs that really don'e work well at all.
Sure would be nice to have some of the old army navy stores back again they had great stuff at good prices.
