They'd certainly been 'anviling' us with it throughout the eppy. (The father gushing about how his little girl had just finished chelation therapy, and the girl herself giving Luka a plate of cookies -- Luka telling Carter how nice it was to have hot showers and plenty of gloves -- Kerry commenting that they need him in Chicago too, and then Luka himself seeing that problems like malnutrition exist right here at home.) Alex may have been the final straw, but I think he'd been sort of at a point where he was planning to go back simply because he'd BEEN planning to go back, and maybe was looking for an excuse to change his mind. (Think back to the scene where he ws putting the splint on Alex's wrist a few eppies back and talking about Africa. He didn't sound exactly enthused about it then, did he?)
