Teresa, Getting passed or not winning is racing. Getting beat by bad calls and getting cussed at by the officials isn't. As you stated you don't come often. So there is no way that you would know about anything that might be happening on a weekly basis. It seems that what is said one week for rules only applies for that week. There has been 3 or 4 different formats use for lining up the races. First off there is only supposed to be 4 cars in a trophy dash. The head scorer and pit steward have been doing their jobs for over 20 years each and know what they are doing. They have the race program set up as it has been ran for years and it gets changed. They line up a race and it gets changed. Yes sometimes they make mistakes. If it is brought to their attention it is corrected. The dash was lined up wrong because the race format was changed. There was 6 people standing at the pit stand including the pit steward that agreed on how the race should have been lined up, but the scorers or the pit steward didn't get to have a say.
2 weeks ago at the drivers meeting there was a long speech about if you are running the top of the track stay on the top, if on the bottom stay on bottom. In that dash the person leading the first few laps would come out of the corner and go to the top of the track and half way down the straight would go to the bottom (blocking). That totally defies the speech from weeks eariler. This action resulting in two cars getting together. The refree disqualified the car that had the bottom line. When he tried to question the call the ref. stated "get the F*** off the track".
What is so funny is that the car that was blocking didn't drive that pattern in any races before that or after that. If he would have been doing that to me he would have been upside down.
The car that was blocking wasn't even supposed to be in that race. The drivers finally got tired of waiting for the correct line-up and decided to just run the race. So because someone was to impatient to wait 2 minutes for the correct line-up with only 4 cars this resulted in a 15 minute delay and the loss of 3 more cars.
Garden City lost 5 or 6 cars the beginning of July because of hasty decisions. If this happens 2 or 3 more times there won't be enough cars to have a race.
You don't have to like what I have said. You can even bash it if you want.I have been racing these cars for 28 years I can tell you that that race should have never gone on the track. The ref. should have never made that call or cussed at the driver, and that the driver should hadn't cussed the ref.. I don't approve of any of it but do see why tempers rose. The people that were standing in the pits at the fence should have never mouthed off that only fuels the fire. Bottom line is that there needs to be a better line of communication from the officals, and if you are not directly involved stay in your pit with your mouth closed.
