We run the 3/8 mile tracks all the time and have for years. In fact there are many 3/8 mile tracks all over the country that run micros. Trust me, it is safer than you'd think. We've had cars get upside down and in wrecks and we've never had anyone leave in an ambulance. The speeds are faster, alot faster, but not as fast as most people think. You'll find there always opinions from people that don't run tracks that size and they are mostly unfavorable. The MSMS, UMSA, SOW6, NYMM and other series routinely compete on the 3/8 tracks. Also, it's not the "big" motors winning all of the races. In fact you don't use the power bands that the "big" motors are built for, the low and mid-range. Your engines are pretty wound up on the bigger tracks and most are close to equal in the upper rpm range. I've seen the stock engines smoke the built engines many times. We don't see enigines blowing any more frequently on the 3/8 mile tracks than we see them eating themselves on the smaller tracks. A good set-up and a smooth driver will win the races, someone who can use their momentum to an advantage.

The speeds are usually in the mid to upper 90s on the 3/8. The speeds on the 1/4 mile tracks are usually in the mid 70s to low 80s. 5th and 6th mile tracks are usaully around 60, and so fourth. Everyone likes to think that they are going 100 mph in these cars, although it may feel like it, the speeds aren't that fast. We've checked cars with radar on every size track you can imagine. At the 600 nationals the leaders were running flat on the floor, on a 1/4 mile, and were just bumping 80. So to answer your question with a very educated opinion, yes it is safe and the crowds will love it.

If you want to even the playing field out even more put a 50 durometer rr tire rule. The MSMS, UMSA, SOW6 all use this rule and it really helps keep the field from getting strung out and allows the "little" to guy compete with the "big" guy, and also saves you serious money on tires. The 50s don't burn up. The fans like it better because it creates better, closer racing. Just a suggestion that works well for us.

Personally I like to race on the small tracks, the bigger tracks are kind of boring for me. I'd rather sling the car in and run multiple grooves. The larger tracks are more about finesse and set-up than anything. But if a track wants to run your class and is going to put up the money... Go with it!

Hope that helped
