I now have a computer in my garage. My wife's laptop was having some minor problems, her USB ports weren't working and one of the arrow keys had broken off, so I bought her a new laptop. Since the old laptop still worked minus one key and USB ports, I decided to make it my garage computer. I bought a PCMCIA USB/FireWire card so I could get some working USB ports, hooked up a Wireless Access Point (WAP) in the garage (the garage is too far away from my other WAP to get a good signal out there), and set up a spot on my workbench. I now have a place to access my Chilton/Haynes CD manuals, hook up my AutoTap OBD II diagnostic tool/software, and research problems/fixes online right in my garage. And, when I'm working, I can access my network share MP3 folder and have a large selection of tunes to listen to. Short of a beer fridge, a computer is one of the best additions to my garage inventory I could get, and since I don't need anything high-end in the garage, a used laptop is the perfect way to go.

BTW, I now have 12 computers on my home network running a Server 2K3 AD domain.
