Although she was unsure if she would develop AD, Janet seemed to be under much stress after watching her father die from the disease. I feel as though genetic testing should be soley up to the person being tested (unless they are a child and genetic testing could help them) and it is not for others to say when or if a person should be tested because the information can have such a profound affect on that person's life. Since Janet had such an interest in being tested, she saw it as a good choice, even though the tests revealed unfortunate news. Obviously, there are bad reasons to have genetic testing, although in the mind of the person who wants the test, they may be right. I feel as though a good reason to have genetic testing would be if a genetic test would enable the patient and doctors to get a headstart in taking precautionary measures to stop a disease before it starts. However, these are my own opinions and, because genetics can very quickly turn into a very personal subject, I would not try to press my opinion upon others.
