I agree with Megan that the doctors adminestering these genetic tests have a responsibility to their patients to let them know exactly what the tests are saying and to refer them to genetic counselors, and/or psychiatric counselors. It is important that doctors do this to make sure that patients understand exactly what their risks really are and that the tests are not always the be all or end all that they will or will not get the disease. A counseler may be needed if the person feels guilty because they do not have the defective genes and one of their siblings does or they may be angry that they have the defective genes and their siblings do not. It is very important that all the risks and possibilities be explained to them by their physicians, genetic counselors, and/orpsychiatric counselors .
