I'd say that Supernartural has a greater focus on Horror in its design and execution than Buffy does. This is not surprising since Buffy (and, arguably, most of what Joss writes) hinjes on a subversion of the genre/commonly accepted tropes and concepts of Horror.

But I have only caught splatterings (pun intended) of Supernatural (maybe 5-10 episodes over the three season--and did they air their "Jason Voorhees" appearance ep I heard about a while back?), so I cannot say much on the subject.

I have, however, done a full essay for said Horror course (which had a pretty good run of films) on the subject of Buffy as a Horror series, and explaining why and how. Hence, my strong objection to Buffy being "Not Horror" when I basically had a loaded gun waiting on my desktop. :)
