One of the most (politically) significant lines in this issue, IMO, is this one by Gigi:

"Buffy has forced our kind to be the serfs of the world, when we should have been lording over the masses. Once she's gone, we can finally lead her brainwashed Slayers out of the shadows of servitude and into the light of..."

Roden then cuts her off, with the line:

"Getting ahead of ourselves, aren't we Lady Genevieve?"

I don't think the phrasing of Roden's comment is a casual one. Because of her mindset, Gigi doesn't get that Roden is going to kill her along with the rest of the Slayers, ad that he pretty much said just that.

Besides the Sanctuary similarities, Faith must have or be gaining an understanding that Gigi's attitude is just like the one Faith sported in the "Bad Girls" arc, where she pretty much asserted the same concept to Buffy-- that the ordinary world needs the Slayer, and that makes Slayers the superior being, one who should be intrinsically admired and deferred to.

Getting back to the "serfs" line, what struck me about it was how well it seems to sum up the thoughts of a lot of those on the conservative and/or religious right in the U.S.-- that somehow, despite being the persons objectively in power, they are somehow being unfairly held back by the people they rule over, and that this is unforgivable. It's very Orwellian, and very much like the current "Imperial Presidency" here, with Roden as Cheney and Gigi as the puppet "leader" Bush.

...it isn't ending up as an insult to Faith, who not only isn't the killer everyone else thinks she is, but is desperately trying to bring the situation she's been thrown into to a close that won't leave anyone dead.

I'm really hoping that this arc will end with Faith being the one-- of all involved-- to hold up the moral high ground. Even if Buffy is the one who kills Gigi, and even if it seems necessary, it still leaves Faith as the one who, as you said, is trying to get out of this without resorting to the death penalty.

There has certainly been possible foreshadowing of this in BtVS season 7.
