Perhaps you can clarify what you mean by betrayal.

Its hard to see how Buffy betrays anybody in Season 7. The argument could be made, I'm sure. The frightened gang might think that Buffy's removal of Spike's chip was a betrayal. But it would never be clear cut. Buffy doesn't betray people. Betrayal is to go against someone that trusts you for your own purposes, in fact, to use that trust as the means for furthering your own purposes. Giles betrays Buffy in a sense at the end of season 7. Giles is, of course, as wrong as he was when he was in "kill Dawn" mode.

Spike claims that they betrayed Buffy when they kicked her out. Have you gotten that far? Does Wood betray Buffy? I don't see it that way. They're all pouting, petulant, annoying brats, but I don't really see what they do as betrayal. They were upfront about it. They called a meeting and said, "We're voting you out." And its not clear that they were wrong. Foolish perhaps, but not necessarily wrong. Buffy needed to revisit her role and her leadership style if they were "to be together on this."

Thematically, I think betrayal, if it is used at all in Buffy season seven, is used to highlight the difference between division and unity, which seems to be the main theme of the season. Moving from a world of separateness, otherness and division to oneness.

I can't offer much comment on Angel.
