Subject: Episode 6 'Countryside' (spoilers for teaser Ep. 7)

Another improvement, a slight change in direction which I won't go into in deference to non-spoilery but an episode in which the emphasis on tension worked well. Mystery plays a crucial part and some of the standard horror tricks are used to good effect. There has, up till now, been a indefinable 'something' that I couldn't quite identify which left me slightly dissatisfied, probably irregular pacing. Even though I've thouroughly enjoyed the series there was always an element of reservation sufficient to make me guarded in my praise. This problem of mine is largely, for the time being at least, a thing of the past.

Episode 7 will show us another change and, if the trailers are anything to judge by, the sexual element of the show will only keep increasing. With a small amount of trepidation and a sizeable slice of 'I can't wait' I'm now looking forward to next Sunday's offering. I expect this theme to be handled well but not in any sense coyly. This raises the possibility of it being rather too gritty for some but if I understand where they're going with this that is a step worth taking. I avoid the word 'risk' as some would argue that portraying sexual stuff is less of a risk than it is a certainty of bumping your viewing figures. I leave that to the reader to decide. It will certainly, from what I've seen of the 'teasers' and recent plot developments, be rather more adult that the usual Sci-Fi content. I'm not talking skin (AFAIK) but there did seem to be rather more in the way of illicit passion than is often seen outside movies which have a sexual relationship as their central theme. As we all know this element of naughtiness adds a frisson beyond that attainable in a 'permitted' liaison. As I write I am willing the execution to live up to my expectations but since the wrap party was a fortnight ago that surely is in the lap of the gods.
