well, I expect any effort to explain this will seem like fanwanking.

Nevertheless, everyone fighting in the school has, by that time, made the choice. this is the same choice that caused the transformation of Buffy seven years before. Buffy was already the slayer, but was petrified of the Master. It wasn't until she chose to be the Slayer in Prophecy Girl that she "felt different, strong," and kicked the Master's purple behind. Making that choice transforms you, regardles of whatever status you supposedly had prior to it. Choosing to embrace the spiritual life, to fight the spiritual fight, to sacrifice one's material self for the spiritual self, however you want to describe it, that choice is what makes them powerful. You can't lose if you've made that choice, because even giving your life in the fight is what you have chosen to do.

Everybody in Buffy's living room made that choice, and they were transformed at the moment of making the choice, regardless of whether or not there was a ritual still to be performed. In Buffy cosmology, it has already been established that the choice is everything.

Its almost fair to say that Buffy is Pro Choice.

So the ubervamps could still be ubervamps. But the scoobs and potentials had chosen to be up to the task. So its not incosistency in the Ubervamps, its consistency in the power of the choice.

Well, that's my fanwank anyways.
