During her bad-but-not-really-bad period, she did hacking with magic enhancement; when she was "on the wagon," she sadly did it the old-fashioned way. I took that as a comment on the connection, but maybe I was only seeing what I thought was there anyway. You're right, they never did anything close to explicitly linking them.
