I would have liked to have heard more from Sarah during the special features too, but if it's not what she wants, I have to just let it go and accept that, because I do fully understand the "it's just a job" way of thinking.
I guess the question is exactly what the job of actor/star actually is. I think some amount of interaction with the fans is legitimately part of the job. She is not working on an assembly line building widgets, she is offering an artistic product to the public and part of her responsibilities should, in my opinion, be to sell that product. I doubt most actors or authors look forward to touring the interview shows or bookstore signings etc but there is a responsibility to promote your product. The fact that SMG could not be bothered to participate in any of the DVD extras indicates to me a certain contempt for the fans, whether she actually feels this way or not. Now if I were SMG, given that pretty much everything else she has done has been crap, I would be trying to identify myself with BtVS at every opportunity. This was a seminal show and she was the major on-screen presence and should be damn proud of her work. The fact that she does not want to date her coworkers or socialize with them or go to their weddings is not the point. That she did not participate in any of the extra features shows a disregard for the finished product and sets her up as either being superior (shades of S7) to everyone else or just not caring. Of course, as everyone points out, it is her decision to make but one should not be surprised when that decision is sometimes criticized.
