Subject: LOST: Claire & motherhood

I was disappointed, though not surprised, by

the stereotypical depiction of Claire's childbirth

on Lost. Jack's "medical" advice was absurd.

And isn't it interesting that apparently

there were no other mothers on the plane who

thought to converse with Claire about the topic &

that apparently neither did Jack have the commonsense

to educate Claire about the childbirth *ahead* of time?

Claire could have calmly walked to the caves, or even,

due to the fact that Jack was not in possession of

any of the high tech supplies necessary to help her

in an emergency anyway, simply decided to have the baby

by herself with a helper, perhaps even in the ocean. But

unfortunately the producers went for the predictable

thrill of panicked hysteria, rather than a depiction

that would have been far more socially responsible and

perhaps a little too creatively taxing for them.

In another unfortunate choice, I don't believe we've

seen Claire breastfeeding yet. How repugnant

that it is first nature for these people to

normalize torture, but not breastfeeding.
