Interesting that you both used the physics analogy. That's exactly what I had in mind: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Or something like that anyway.

Some examples of episodes with magic usage with no repercussion of that nature:

Witch, IRYJ, Becoming (assuming Willow actually did this spell), Doppelgangland, Enemies, Choices, Hush, Doomed, The I in Team (offstage), WAY, WTWTA, BvD, The Replacement, Triangle, Blood Ties, Tough Love, Spiral, WotW, The Gift.

I'm sure there are others; these were off the top of my head. All of these examples are of the good guys. Bad guys use magic more often. Sometimes Buffy foils the intended result, but rarely is there a "consequence" of the type we're discussing here.
