Tumbletail, the hedgehog, watched as the green-blue waves crashed against the sandy shoreline. She let her tiny brown paws sink in the wet sand as she watched the fiery orange sun start to disappear below the waves. Suddenly, she felt herself lifted up into the air. "'Hoy there, me liddle shipmate!" The gruff voice of Kalik Rudderwave filled her ears, and the Dibbun squirmed in his grasp. "Lemme gooo!" She screeched, but Kalik only laughed as he carried her back to their makeship camp a little farther along the shore.
Tumbletail finally shooted out of Kalik's arms and darted off, racing toward where food was being served. A lanky red squirrel handed her a bowl of plum pudding. The hedgehog wasn't really hungry; oh no, she was going to do some mischief with it! All the beasts settled down to eat, sitting on the logs around a large firepit. Tumbletail took her ladleful of pudding, placed a finger on the back, and let go, watching it soar directly at her father, Reuben Spikedog. It hit the side of his face just as he was about to turn and look at his daughter. His face twisted and contorted in rage; Tumbletail let out a squeal that was half delightful and half fearful. Then she turned tail and fled, racing alongside the water as it hit the shore methodically. She disappeared behind a rock, and waited there for many moments, which probably stretched into an hour. The hedgehog guiltily stepped out from behind it, to find some grim faced elders looking at her. She let out a nervous laugh, and raised a fist defiantly as her dad scooped her up. He looked thoroughly annoyed as Tumbletail started to chatter randomly; he thought he caught the words "dancing cheese" and "a hyper goose". Resignedly they set off down the shore, Tumbletai; still being as annoying as ever.
