- No! Let me go! I don't want to bath!
Mother Auma almost threw the reluctant young female otter in the bath tub.
- Oh my godness Sheena! the old badger muttered, where have you been?
- I've been swimming in the pond! I don't need a bath!
- You've been swimming! How in God's name do you dibbuns do to get this dirty?
Before Sheena could answer, Auma pressed her head under the water and scrubbed her fur between the otter's little round ears.
- Oww! Sheena shouted as soon she had her mouth over the soapy water, I've got soap in my eyes and you've tored off my skin on my head!
- Don't be silly, said mother Auma and started to wash the poor otter's back. Sheena decided that it was enough.
- Look! she screamed, theres a big ugly vermin rat outside the window!
- Where? the badger asked and turned around.
Sheena did'nt wait. She jumped out of the tub and ran as fast as she could trough the great hall and out of the abbey building.
- Breezetail! she shouted when she saw a little squirrel, hurry up, mother Auma is behind me and you have to hide me!
Breezetail waved with her tiny paw and pointed on a gnarled pear tree. Fast as an otter Sheena climbed up in the tree. She was good att climbing, Breezetail had learned her.
Shortly after Sheena had disappeard up in the foliage mother Auma showed up.
- Breezetail, have you seen Sheena? she puffed.
Breezetail shook her head looking very innocent. But when she lifted her paw to the nose she hid a naughty smile.
- Well, I'll bath her later. But you, Breezetail, I think you need a bath to.
Breezetails smile turned into a grimace of fear when Auma grabbed her with big, strong paws.
- No, not a bath! she whined and squirmed as the panick beamed through her eyes.
When the badger and the squirrel had disappeared Sheena climbed down.
- I have to save my mate! she shouted and grabbed her sling shot that she had left beside the tree that had saved her from a bath.
Then she ran in in the abbey building and sneaked on silent paws through the grat hall. She stopped outside the bathing room where Auma tried to wash Breezetail.
- Aaaaumaaaaaa! the otter said with a dark, spooky voice, I'm Maaaaartin the Waaarior and I've come to punish you for baaaaathing dibbuns!
Auma turned around. Breezetail saw her opportunity and, like a red flash, she jumped out through the open window.
For the second time that day Sheena ran through the great hall and out of the abbey building. But this time she didn't stop. Like a whirlwind she ran through the garden and out through a door in the wall that somebody had left open. Then she ran into Breezetail that had ran around the entire building.
- Hi, she puffed, what do we do now?
Sheena took a deep breath and answered:
- Let's go on adventures!
- Yeah!
The otter and the squirrel walked into the forest of Mossflower together.
- Look, boss! a tattood ferret said to a big, dark ferret with a cruel scimitar, a little squirrel and an otter has walked here!
The big ferret draw a knife and licked its edge before hi said:
- I could bet my old mom that they're from the abbey. If we had them as hostages we could take over the place. Y'know how much those woodlanders loves their little ones.
- Yeah, I know, the tattood ferret said an spit on the ground, grinning evilly.
- All right then, get my lazy boys on their paws, Gwur. I want those kids captured before the dusk.
- Aye aye, boss, the tattood ferret said (he had been a pirate long ago) and blew a signal into a whistle made of bone. Immedietly about fifty ferrets showed up.
- All right, boys, the leader said, we have a couple of kids to capture.
- What kids? an unitelligent ferret said and scratched his head.
- The kids that we are gonna have as hostages, Gwur explained.
- Hostages to what?
- To get in to the abbey, you idiot! the leader screamed, now get going!
The idiot turned to a friend and whispered:
- What abbey?
- The one that sails with the cloud in the sky, his friend said ironicly, Redwall abbey, of course, bonehead!
- Hey! Bonehead to you, you wormtail!
- Bottlenose!
- Slobberchops!
- Drooling wimp!
- Shut up and look for marks! Gwur interrupted!
- Shut up and look for marks!
- What was that? Breezetail stopped and turned around.
- Look, boss, an ugly ferret said and pointed, there's the squirrel!
- Hide! Breezetail cried and Sheena immedietly dove into a thicket.
Breezetail jumped up in a tree, but not fast enough. A ferret grabbed her bushy tail and pulled her down.
- Where's the other? the leader snarled.
- Don't know boss.
- Didn't ask you! Squirrel, where's your friend?
- D-don't know, Breezetail lied, we are lost, and she tried to find the way home. I th-think she went in that drection. Breezetail pointed with a shaking paw.
- Boys, let's go and find the otter!
Sheena silently followed the ferrets and tried to think of how she could save Breezetail. Suddenly she knew. She climbed up in a trea and shouted with a dark, spooky voice for the second time that day:
- I am the ghost of Maaaaaartin the Waaaaarrior!
The ferrets stopped and looked around.
Fast as a flash Sheena jumped to another tree, like a squirrel (Breezetail had learnt her that too) and shouted with the dark voice:
- Leeet the squirrel goooooooo!
She jumped to another tree again.
- Ootherwiiise I will cuuuuurse you!
- B-boss, a ferret said, maybe we should leave the sqiurrel...
The leader punched the ferret and snarled:
- It's just a trick, stay...
A little stone from Sheenas sling shot hit him in the head and he passed out.
- Thooose who disobey meeee will faaaaaaaall just like him!
Nobody had seen the stone, so they thought that their boss was dead.
- Let's leave, pal, I don'want to die!
- Me neither!
- Don't curse us, Warrior! a ferret begged.
- Then releeeease the squirrel, pick uuup your faallen boss and leeeeeeave, and neeever come baaaack!
- Whatever you say! Five ferrets grabbed their unconscius boss and started to run between the trees away from the "ghost".
When the sound of running paws had faded away Sheena climbed down the tree and hugged Breezetail.
- Now that was a real adventure! the squirrel said.
Suddenly a troup of otters showed up.
- Well, there you are, you naughty small dibbuns, the Skipper said.
- Uncle Skipper! Sheena said an ran towards to the big otter. He wasn't her real uncle, but he had became one when he looked after her in the abbey somtimes.
- Where have you been, mateys, he said and lifted the little otter and the squirrel and put them on his shoulders.
- We've been fighting vermin ferrets, uncle! said Sheena and tickled the Skipper's ears.
- Really? said the Skipper with laughter in his voice.
- No, no, Breezetail said, it really happened.
- Skipper, said an young otter, there's been a ferret army around here, the marks are very clear!
- Why don't you tell me the story on our way back to the abbey, the Skipper said with a, for him uncharacteristical, serious voice.
As the otter troup walked back to Redwall, the two dibbuns told how they had went on adventure and how Breeztail had been kidnapped and saved. Birds were singing and the sun glared down through the leaves warmed them.
