There is a traitor among us. When a few dibbuns tried to get some candied chestnuts from the kitches, the elders were gaurding them! Stop the traitor or DAB will never have a secret feast again!
Hiffle the hare runs toward me as fast as his oversized feet will let him. "Brooksong, there are elders guarding the candied chestnuts!" he sqeaks as he skids to a halt at my feet. He's panting hard, and Hiffle is not known to lie. "You've got to help us, or we may never eat yummy foods again!" He says.
I slowly stand up to face him. "Hiffle, go get Trinniss and Arywn. I think they are picking strawberries. Bring them back to me. Also get Grint the feildmouse. He might be with Trinniss." I say, and head for the kitchen. Hiffle sprints away, but trips before he reaches the door. I pretend not to notice.
"They won't eat any more sweets before dinner now." I hear Mother Mellus say. She chuckles, but it ends up coming out like a cough.
I sneak up to the corner of the kitchen, and peek inside. There are four doormice standing around the candied chestnut jar, and Mother Mellus is sitting on a stack of apple baskets. This could be harder than I thought. I hear Hiffle coming across Great Hall toward me. I look back, and he is followed by Arywn, Trinniss, and Grint. Grint is a tiny mouse, with the longest tail every seen. I beckon to Grint, Trinniss and Arywn. "Grint, walk into the kitchen and trip." I say. Grint nods. "Arywn, you follow, and say something about how your beesting still hurts." Arywn got stung by a bee yesterday. "Both of you, remember to cry as loud and as long as possible. Trinniss, you sneak in over everyone's heads, and head for the chestnuts. Grab them, and leave." I say, and turn back to Grint and Arywn. "You two are the distraction. As soon as Trinniss is gone, you may stop crying."
Grint waddles into the room, with Arywn close behind. "Muvva Mells, me paw is still hurting." Arywn wails, and right on cue, Grint trips over his tail. They both burst into tears, and Mother Mellus immedietely jumps off her baskets, and rushes over to them. Trinniss turns to wink at me, and then jumps onto the side of the door frame, climbs up, and into the rafters. She shimmies across the room, disguised by the many hanging roots, dried to a crisp. The mice around the candied chestnuts also rush to the aid of Grint and Arywn, which leaves a perfect space for Trinniss to leap down from the rafters, and scamper out of the room. As soon as she is gone, Arywn begins to sniff "Will I have to go to bed early, Muvva Mells?" She asks.
The large badger shakes her head. "No, Arywn. You didn't do anything wrong. Are you two both going to be okay?" She asks, fully beleiving the act.
Grint nods again. I tink so, Muvva. Tank you!" He says, and waddles from the room again.
We all run out into the warm sunlight, ready to begin a day of fun, despite the fact that four mice and a badger are still 'guarding' and empty box.
Author's Note: I created two new characters in this story. Any similarities between these characters and your own are not my fault.
