Name: Peach Snowshade
Dorm: Wicked Wastrels
Mission #8-Mother Mellus has put you to bed, but you have a meeting with a friend in the forest. Explain your escape.
“I am very ashamed at you. March you little self up to bed right this instant!” That had been Mother Mellus’ angry verdict after Peach had put meadowcream in the Abbot’s chair. When he sat down for dinner it got all over him. Somehow Ma Mellus heard that it was Peach’s fault. Now she was to be in bed until the next morning.
But I’m supposed to meet Jella at the patch of mint out in the forest tonight, she thought miserably. She sat on her bed and stared at the treetops outside her window. Her pink eyes glowed with determination. I’ll just sneak out and meet Jella. No one will know, it will be after dark. She laid down and pretended to sleep until the appointed time.
The moon shone in through the window of the dormitory. Peach slowly woke up. Glancing around to see that everybeast was asleep she slid off of her bed. Wrapping her light blue cloak around herself, she snuck out of the dorm and quietly shut the door behind her. A few low burning wall torches lighted the hallway. Peach pulled her hood up and crept down the hallway.
Going past Ma Mellus’ room the door creaked open. Peach dove under the table nearby and held perfectly still. Jena walked out of the room. She looked quizzically down the hall, as if she had heard something, then she shrugged and continued down the stairs to the Great Hall. Holding her breath Peach waited a couple moments after Jena’s footsteps had disappeared down the hallway. Slowly Peach crept out from underneath the table and made her way downstairs.
A light was lit in Great Hall. The light bounced off the walls and around the corner of the stairs. The little white mouse peeked around the corner carefully. Seated at the table were Jena, Peach’s parents, Father Abbot, and a couple of other beasts that could not sleep. Peach surveyed her surroundings. Across from her on the same wall was a small cabinet; the table was a little further along. All of the beasts were seated on the side opposite of Peach. That’s a good line of action, she thought, now how to get to that cabinet? She simply decided to wait until no one was looking. Bent double she dashed over to the cabinet and pressed herself into the shadow, out of their line of view. Gingerly peeking over the cabinet, she did the same thing and dashed over to the table. She got all of the way underneath. Pausing she waited to make sure no one was coming to investigate the little bit of noise she did make. No one moved. Good, Peach thought relieved.
Peach now searched for a way out of the Hall. Looking towards the door, she was relieved to see that somebeast had left it slightly ajar to let in the cooling summer breeze. Peach reckoned that she could make a mad dash to the door, I nobeast happened to look her way. I’ll just wait a few moments. Just to make sure no one bees suspicious she thought as she settled down to wait out a few painstakingly long minutes. After what seemed like an eternity Peach edged her way towards the end of the table. Looking up through chair legs she could barely see them. Nobeast was watching, they were too busy sampling the morning scones and talking in hushed whispers. Like a tiny little shadow Peach stole across to the open door. Pushing her way out she made sure that this door did not shut behind her.
Peach made it all the way across the Abbey grounds before she remembered that the front gate was not an option. She would never be able to get that open by herself. So turning around in mid skip she headed for the northern wicker gate. I’ll be able to get that one. It’s much smaller. And no one will be watching it. Almost chuckling aloud with glee she continued to skip to the small gate. She slowed down to a walk and came up to the gate. She could still just barely smell grease. Good, they just greased the door. Now they won’t hear me. Happy with her turn of luck she stood on tippaw and unlatched the gate. Swinging it open, she disappeared into Mossflower woods.
