Subject: North Sydney RAW Show; My Thoughts/Match Times

>Someone finally clues in that having the "f" word
>scattered all over the pre-show music isn't the most
>prudent thing in the world.
Amazing how many weeks they did before doing something about it. And Brian clues in like its a major revelation!

>Cathy is up to role #4; this week, it's camerawoman.
As I said before, this promotion is made entirely up of utility players! Brian leads by example! (Ref, commentator, announcer, and promo man!)

>1. Corporal Chaos vs. Mike Hughes
Results: Hughes by pinfall over Chaos at 6:09
Hmm... I usually don`t rate Chaos matches but they are getting longer and he is starting to get more offense into them! You get the feeling that they are working to a big pop from the crowd for when he actually wins his first match.
Interesting that Hughes was in the opener, but it`s a sound decision. It gives Chaos yet another opponent (getting squashed by the same guy twice would be dreadful), Hughes loses no credibility, and there are still three big matches on the card (two involving the "big six", and the already established tag match).
RAW afforded itself the luxury of Hughes in the opener by making fans care about a match full of midcarders. Good stuff.

>2. Chi Chi Cruz vs. Massive Damage
Match Result: Chi Chi Cruz over Massive Damage by DQ at 13:34
My Match Ranking: **1/4

>Wow, surprise #2! A babyface match that sees Cruz in
>the second match of the evening and Massive in a
>scientific element.
I love it! I love face vs. face matches. Cathy seems to be on the money about Damage, he shows us more every week.

>But I think this makes for a good change in pace.
Agreed.
My only objection to this match was that while the match formula and ending both made sense, they didn`t really go together. The DQ ending doesn`t seem appropriate at all to end a purely scientific match.
For the record, Hughes did run-ins at 12:22, and then again at 13:24.

>Damage chooses to waffle Hughes
>with a chair, thus cementing his babyface status- if
>there was any doubt.
Good angle to end the match. It gives Damage more face heat. It allows give RAW another option for the "fourth face" for when Acadian Giant comes back for the Sinners.
I`d LOVE to see an 8 man tag then.

>3. Duke MacIssac/Eddy Watts vs. Flesh Gordon/Custom
>Made Man
Match Result: MacIssac/Watts over Gordon/CMM at 18:36
My Match Ranking: ***1/2
The longest match of the tour thus far (I THINK), and the best. Is there a connection?

>This was a fantastic match and really showed us what
>the "Custom Made Marks" were on to. CMM (see, I got
>the initials right this time!) does a great Ricky
>Morton impersonation and all four men keep the crowd
>involved from start to finish.
This was a HUGE show from CMM. I was really impressed with this guy on RAW`s first go around, but he hadn`t done anything worth noting this time- until this match. Everyone worked hard, but CMM took the match up a notch with the "face in peril" work.

>Good old-school tag
>finish- as Custom hits the frog splash but Watts
>nails him with the guillotine legdrop and the heels
>win.
I loved it. Obviously, the ref was distracted for the legdrop. It was a great way to end the match- with two highflying moves. The heels win, the faces don`t lose heat, and the booking makes sense.
My only beef was this match was the "hot tag". We waited AGES for Flesh to get in, but when he did he delivered a couple of weak clotheslines. This may have been bad luck more than anything else (I think that the ref was in his way on one spot). Something like that makes a difference when you are talking about a hot tag, because it is a critical part of an old school tag match.
Other than that, little to no complaints. Good work from everyone, and great work from CMM.
The pre-match promo by Watts was also decent, although calling CMM "Custom Made Idiot" isn`t going to generate a lot of heat!

>4. Wildman Gary Williams vs. Bobby Rude
My Match Ranking: (** 1/2)
Match Result: Williams over Rude at 7:30

>Williams is the champ and the North Sydney Forum has
>seen three different champions in the last three
>shows.
Might be a good idea to cool down the "hotshotting" of the title. I don`t care about the title as much as I did earlier in the year.
As usual with Rude and Williams, the content that`s there is strong. But when will they give these guys time to work a really good match? It gets cut off just when they get it going.
Also, here are some striking numbers:
Time of the "fall" (Rude`s pin over Williams): 7:24
Time of the fall after re-start: 0:06
It just seemed anti-climatic for Williams to score a pin a mere six seconds after the match`s restart.
Question: What was up with the Custom Made Mark lying down on the floor? Didn`t make any sense to me!

>5. Tables Match: Joe E Legend vs. Kingman
Match Result: Kingman over Legend at 9:13

>Alas, Kingman goes over with the help
>of Bobby Rude thus giving Kingman a top heel run.
Time of Rude run-in: 7:56
I fear what a Kingman/Williams match might look like. At least Joe FINALLY gets a new opponent after working with this stiff the last while.

>But the great news: this sets up a Legend-Rude match for
>next week. That could be the gem to rival the tag
>match from tonight.
Agreed- if they give them time! Hopefully the Legend/Rude match will be more like Rude`s matches with Chi Chi than Rude`s matches with Williams.
It should be a chance for Joe to prove himself. A lot of the fans here may have missed his classic run in 99 (his matches with Cruz were amazing), and if they have only seen this Joe E they`ve only seen him work against Kingman.

>The only problem I
>see is that the company is going run smack dab against
>Summerslam: and that's a shame because people
>oughtn't choose to duck out as these shows get better
>and better.
I`d sooner watch Rude/Legend than any piece of crap that the WWF puts out.
