How did BMN end up like his brother- struggling to catch up with posting assignments?

We are informed before the show begins that Acadian Giant's father has passed away and will not attend.

The show began with Mike Hughes doing the traditional "I'm the heel and I ran so and so out of town and injured so and so..." (much like we heard from Scott Steiner for 3-4 months). The two faces he mentions by name are Custom Made Man and Wildman Austin. So of course, CCM comes out to inform Hughes that he is indeed back. But Hughes turns his challenge down and refers him to Massive Damage, which then leads to...

...the return of Wildman Austin who brings Cathy in from the crowd. Apparently, Cathy is a lawyer (can I put you on file, Cath?) because she is holding papers that allow Austin to return under his new (read: real) name of Gary Williams. The match is on but with the catch that Cathy gets to be Williams' "wildgirl." My friend Meghan is skeptical: "She's not wild at all." Which is why I guess Williams asks Cathy to "prove it" before the match starts.

All in all, not a spectacular segment but it allowed Hughes to once again run wild with the word "stupid" and it set up two returns and a debut. That's a lot of business for 5-10 minutes.

1. Eddy Watts vs. Buddy Lane (** 1/2)

Not too bad. Lane is Mr. Vanilla but he's able to carry a good flow to a match and I'll take that over someone with forced charisma who can't work. Does anyone wonder if he wouldn't make a better heel? Watts takes it with a stun gun. Watts is a solid heel for an indy show; able to find a few fans and run with their criticisms. Some good mat work here.

2. Kingman vs. Cpl. Chaos (*)

A squash, but I give it a star for accomplishing what it was supposed to do. Get Kingman over in the stead of Acadian Giant not being here.

3. Custom Made Man vs. Massive Damage (* 1/4)

OK, it's time for me to be preachy: you know how nowadays, some wrestler dives from a balcony through three tables or comes up with a really neat move or what not and everyone instantly tabs him as a candidate for the wrestler of the decade? Well, ask Scott Levy (Raven) what he is most critical of wrestlers of in terms of moves: lockups. Yep, that's right: lockups. In fact, he once said that he felt that there were less than 10 people in the "Big Two" who knew how to do one properly.

My point? Not that CCM or Damage don't know how to lock up, but that you can put some nifty spots in a match but it doesn't prove that you're a good worker. Herb Kunze once said that Ricky Steamboat could take a side chinlock more places than any other wrestler could go (and he would be correct in saying that).

So don't ask me for any screwups or lack of moves that contributed to me ranking this match so low. All I can tell you is that the match had ZERO flow. Often wrestlers can overcome that in front of an spot-hungry audience that cares about them. Not in this case, with many people having soured on Damage and never seen Custom Made. Oh, and the match ended in a DQ too, with CCM using the chair.

4. Wildman Williams (with Cat.., er Wildgirl) vs. Mike Hughes (** 1/4)

Started off pretty good, but a double countout and a lackluster flourish brought it down a notch. Williams still looks in great shape.

We are informed that Joe E Legend will be back in the house that he built on the 19th. The wheels were already in motion to travel to Whycocomagh.

5. Falls Count Anywhere: Chi Chi Cruz vs. Bobby Rude (** 3/4)

A bit insipid with the brawling at the beginning (built a little too quickly) but I thought the last few minutes was really good solid action. Chi Chi wins with a nice powerbomb. Rude definitely deserves top heel billing. Williams helps Chi Chi out with the Sinners afterwards. A great exchange of promos, especially when Rude reminds Chi Chi that things are different now, "this isn't Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling!!" I was waiting for him to say that the Sinners were held down there or what not, but that didn't happen. Even still, the fans really got into this exchange.

Highest match ranking: ** 3/4 (Cruz v Rude)
Lowest match ranking: * (Caos v Kingman)
Avg. match ranking: roughly **
Event ranking: ** 1/2

Actually a decent event given that we had two matches under * 1/2 and some inconclusive finishes. Unlike GPW, there was booking accomplishments to balance out the negativity. Kingman won some more credibility with the younger North Sydney audience, thus creating a bit more interest in an upcoming match with Acadian Giant (should he and when he returns). Chi Chi and Rude are working a great feud. I came away from the show thinking "it wasn't the best that they can do but they're trying and I'm still tuned into the promotion." So they've made a pretty positive impression overall, and Joe E will be a huge boost to the roster. Consider this: Joe E was a heel and had half the crowd cheering him like gangbusters. What will happen with him as a full-fledged face? Something to chew on and look forward to for the next show.
