Subject: My Late As Usual North Sydney Show Thoughts/Match Times

I`m always behind on such matters, and S-Man and BMN did a pretty good job of covering the events of the Thursday`s show. I`ll just give my rankings and times, and some thoughts.

I liked the continuation of the new Massive Damage character, as that had not been done in North Sydney before. It`s a step in the right direction, but he needs to improve his work.
I have to agree with BMN, it`s a shocker to see RAW turn the Giant. I can`t say I really agree with the move; they built up a giant vs. giant match, and screwed the fans out of it.
It also disrupts the face vs. heel balance a bit, but I guess they felt it was necessary with Joe E back- the faces have to be outnumbered! I wonder if this angle will gradually draw everyone in the promotion into a huge battle!
I don`t mind the Giant as a heel, but he doesn`t seem to fit with the Sinners. And why does every heel have to be in that group?? Ugh!
Whoops, got off track there...

First Match: Custom Made Man vs. "Evil" Eddie Watts
Match Time: (Total)- 10:08
Watts pinned CCM, but Wildgirl (who was absent during Williams`s match) told the ref that Watts had his feet on the ropes. (BMN or Davey started a "Cathy" chant that didn`t really go anywhere, although I joined in.) The match times broke down like this:
Stalling before contact- 1:46
First part of the match- 9:55
Time between finish/restart- 0:59
Second part of the match- 0:55
My Match Ranking: **1/2
This was a really good match that was dragged down by some blown spots. As BMN hinted to, the ring itself kind of dragged this match down.
CCM used "My Generation", as S-Man pointed out. That`s his third theme song I`ve seen him use in the last three shows I`ve seen!

Second Match: Corporal Chaos vs. Flesh Gordon
Match Time: 1:38
Chaos is now the RAW jobber! I don`t rate squash matches because they aren`t really matches, but exhibitions. This match seemed to do the trick- Chaos is being used like Mike Hughes in GPW, and it established that Flesh is a face and he`s back and he hasn`t lost a step.

Third Match: Acadian Giant vs. Massive Damage
Match Time: 11:59
Match Ranking: *1/4
Both BMN and S-Man failed to mention the promos before this match. Damage challenged Giant to a match. He tried to get the crowd to chant "hardcore". I was popping for him, but I wasn`t going to chant for hardcore! I think some people felt the same way, although the chant did pick up. He wanted the match to be for the title.
Giant just brushed this off, costing himself a hardcore title shot! Why would he do that?
I had hopes for this match, but it just wasn`t there. Everything was logically based, and the guys were trying hard, but the finished product just wasn`t pretty. The match just lacked substance and there were a lot of restholds.
I found that the crowd really fell out of the match- they wanted to cheer for Damage, but they just couldn`t by match`s end.
I think that as BMN said, the Giant IS better than we give him credit for. But big man vs. big man matches often suck no matter how hard the participants are trying, and this WASN`T an exception!

Four matches before intermission! The jobber match is considered a "bonus match"! Great!

Fourth Match: "Wildman" Gary Williams (Minus Wildgirl) vs. "The Natural" Bobby Rude
Match Time: 6:10
Match Ranking: **3/4
As Williams was slapping hands with our side of the arena, he said, "Joe E is over!" This guy knows how to play to a crowd!
This match was almost too short to rank! SIX minutes? COME ON! I feel like I`m watching the TV show Raw! I guess that it was purposeful though- instead of getting five matches, we get four regular matches and two shorter ones- this match made me want to see a full length Williams/Rude match, and built heat for the tag main event.
The match was great for how long it lasted, no rest holds as S-Man said (because when they needed a rest, they ended the match!)
I found it strange that they totally ignored that they had already scheduled the tag match as the main event. Oh well, we get it anyway, so there`s no loss.

I don`t like the PPV interference that RAW shows will run on Sunday, but other than that, it`s a sound move. North Sydney fans are accustomed to wrestling on Sunday, so they may get some of the GPW crowd back (Bubba and I were discussing this before.)
Every week though- I`m going to go broke!
Myself/Davey Boy/BMN and perhaps others started a "Take That Emile" chant. The owner seemed to like that!

Joe E.`s promo was, as expected, awesome. The guy completely controls our side of the audience and could say whatever he wanted and get a pop. However, I went NUTS when he made reference to Maritime fans actually liking matches past 8 minutes! (I HATE short matches.)
Any time you run down Vince McMahon, I`ll pop. Especially after… ah, don`t even get me started.
I liked Joe E`s running through the names of current RAW guys- the crowd popped for both Wildman and Chi Chi.
The promo work and the following match resulted in the return of the "You`ve been told", and more importantly, "Herc bangs fat chicks!" chants.

Fifth Match: Joe E Legend vs. Kingman
Match Time: 9:56
Match Ranking: **
Poor Joe. Always stuck with Kingman! We did see the return of some of his signature spots, but I think that Kingman may be getting (ugh) worse. This match would have been better if Joe was carrying the offense, but that was not the case (as is to expected with Joe the face.)

Sixth Match: Cardinal Sinners (Bobby Rude/Mike Hughes) vs. Chi Chi Cruz/Wildman Gary Williams
Match Time: 13:37
Match Ranking: **1/4
I pretty much agree with BMN`s review of this match. It was booked very well; it was an old school match (it reminded me of one of the Joe E/Chi Chi matches from the 99 GPW tour). They told a good story and there was heat for the match (which was impressive considering the crowd`s most vocal participants were drained following the Joe E stuff).

But if the match lacked at all, they made up for it.
The end of the match angle was absolutely awesome, and to quote myself, "If I was an 8 year old, I would have been horrified." The Sinners looked like absolute monsters! There should be big time intensity for the next time these groups hook up.
So all in all, it was a good show. RAW still has me waiting for the payoff- I keep thinking that every week will be the week I see that awesome match, but I rarely see it. This week we DID see the awesome angle, and for the most part, no real bad matches.
